I’m doing a round up of the big EMR systems and some of the promising new ones. I think I may have over done it on the pharma companies when I did that round up, so I’m going to be a little briefer here. I will try to do the 5 most popular EMRs and a few emerging ones. Today I’m writing about three emerging EMRs that are becoming quite popular among the new generation of tech-forward medical practices.
Canvas
Canvas is a particularly buzzy EMR start-up that is often used in the same sentence as ‘headless EMR.’ That term usually refers to an EMR having extensive APIs and modular components so tech-forward medical practices can use part of Canvas’s UI, and build or buy other components that can communicate with Canvas through APIs. Canvas also prides itself on a user-friendly interface and extensive integration capabilities. It’s are also widely recognized for its unique patient engagement features that allow providers to communicate effectively with patients
It is headquartered in Chicago and was founded in 2015 by Andrew Hines, a data scientist married to a Family Nurse Practitioner. Canvas has raised over $44 million in venture capital funding to date.
Elation
Elation was founded in 2010, by an academic by a health economist and a consultant who are siblings and the children of primary care physicians. It has raised $108.5 million in venture capital funding to date. Elation is headquartered in San Francisco and is known for its comprehensive and easy-to-use interface.
Elation's platform also has an extensive set of APIs, allowing for seamless integration with third-party applications that are commonly used in the healthcare industry. Elation counts Firefly and Crossover Health as some of its top customers. Elation is also certified by ONC-ACB, making it compliant with Meaningful Use regulations and HIPAA guidelines.
They have been recognized by KLAS as the top EMR for ambulatory medical practice clients.
Dr. Chrono
Finally, Dr. Chrono is a leading electronic medical records start-up that was founded in 2009 by Michael Nusimow and Daniel Kivatinos. The company is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, and has raised over $60.7 million in venture capital funding. Dr. Chrono is a mobile-first platform that allows medical professionals to access their patient records from their mobile devices.
Dr. Chrono counts San Francisco Free Clinic, Westside Family Health Center, and Nextcare Urgent Care as some of its top customers. Dr. Chrono's platform is also ONC-ACB certified, meaning it meets the standards of HIPAA and Meaningful Use regulations. The platform also offers several third-party integrations, such as medical billing software and lab results, to streamline clinical workflows.
Here are some accolades and recognition Dr. Chrono has received: they are only official Apple Mobility Partner for healthcare, the youngest company to be included in the US Government Precision Medicine Initiative, the #1 EHR as voted by doctors, and the #1 mobile EHR as voted by Black Book.
